Customs Clerk (Consultative Logistics Specialist)

Location: Ipswich

Salary: Up to £33,000 + Benefits

 

Reed Recruitment is proud to be partnering with a well-established and forward-thinking logistics provider to recruit a Customs Clerk for one of their growing department.

This is not your standard, process-driven customs role. We are seeking a commercially aware, client-focused professional who thrives in a consultative environment, supporting customers with tailored solutions across their supply chain and customs requirements.

The Opportunity

This position offers a unique chance to step beyond transactional customs work and become a trusted advisor to a diverse client base, helping businesses navigate complex international trade requirements with confidence.

You will play a pivotal role in delivering a value-added service, supporting end-to-end logistics operations and working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and process import/export customs declarations accurately and efficiently
  • Act as a key point of contact for clients, offering guidance on customs procedures and compliance
  • Build and maintain strong relationships, taking a consultative approach to client needs
  • Support wider Total Logistics operations, ensuring a seamless supply chain experience
  • Advise clients on regulatory changes, customs legislation, and best practices
  • Liaise with HMRC, port authorities, and other relevant bodies
  • Identify opportunities to improve service delivery and add value to client accounts

About You

  • Previous experience in customs clearance or freight forwarding
  • Strong understanding of import/export processes and UK customs regulations
  • A proactive, customer-first mindset with the ability to offer solutions—not just process paperwork
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence in building client relationships
  • Commercial awareness and a willingness to go beyond traditional role expectations
  • Experience with customs systems (e.g. CDS) advantageous
