Job Title: Care Home Chef

Location: Lancaster
Hours: Full time - 5 days out of 7 (including alternate weekends)
Start Date: Immediate start available

Job Purpose

To plan, prepare and deliver nutritious, high-quality meals for residents in a 67-bed residential care home, ensuring all meals meet individual dietary requirements, preferences and relevant health and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook fresh, appetising meals for up to 67 residents, including breakfast, lunch and evening meals
• Plan menus that are nutritionally balanced, seasonal and compliant with care home standards
• Cater for special dietary needs (e.g. diabetes, allergies, vegetarian, puréed/soft diets)
• Maintain high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness and kitchen safety in line with HACCP and Food Safety regulations
• Manage stock control, ordering and storage of food supplies to minimise waste
• Work collaboratively with care, nursing and management teams to ensure residents' needs are met
• Maintain accurate food records and support inspections by regulatory bodies
• Supervise and support kitchen assistants where applicable

Skills and Experience Required

• Proven experience as a chef or cook, ideally within a care home, healthcare or similar setting
• Knowledge of special diets and nutrition for older people
• Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2 minimum - Level 3 desirable)
• Ability to work calmly and effectively in a busy environment
• Good communication and organisational skills
• Reliable, flexible and committed to high standards of care

Compliance Requirements

• An Enhanced DBS check is required for this position (or willingness to undergo one prior to starting)
