  • Job Type: Full-time, 1 - 2 months contract
  • Working Hours: Up to 37 hours per week, Mon-Fri 07:00 - 14:54 (occasional weekend work may be available)

Rotherham Council are looking for a dedicated Waste Management Operative to join our Waste Collection Team. This role is crucial in delivering efficient waste and recycling services across the Borough, ensuring clean and safe communities.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Collect all waste and recyclables from household and commercial properties as part of a waste collection crew.
  • Achieve daily operational targets and maintain high service standards.
  • Handle and manoeuvre waste containers of various sizes across different locations, terrains, and gradients.
  • Adhere to all health and safety procedures and safe systems of work.
  • Provide excellent customer service when interacting with the public.
  • Work flexibly across other services as requested (e.g., waste, highways) to support service delivery needs.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience working within a waste collection environment; kerbside waste and recycling experience is desirable.
  • Physically capable of walking between 8 and 10 miles per day, and pushing and pulling bins of varying sizes and weights in all weather conditions.
  • Good understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.
  • Excellent customer care skills to professionally represent the Council.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and maintain flexibility and reliability.
  • Appropriate levels of training will be provided in line with the work being undertaken.
