We’re recruiting an Employee Services Advisor (Pensions) to play a key role in building and future-proofing a high-performing HR Shared Services function for a major London public sector organisation..

The Role

Over a 12-month period, you’ll be responsible for delivering end-to-end LGPS administration for public sector employees while supporting the transition of pensions activities into a sustainable business-as-usual model within the Employee Services team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver core LGPS administration, including:

    • Processing leavers
    • Calculating all types of pensionable pay (incl. Assumed Pensionable Pay)
    • Producing pension estimates
    • Handling complex and technical pension queries
  • Review and validate regular submissions to the third-party pension administrator
  • Work closely with Payroll to ensure accuracy and timeliness
  • Analyse and interpret pension and financial data to clearly advise employees
  • Create and document robust LGPS processes, guidance, and handover materials
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders across GLA, OPDC, and TfL
  • Support performance reviews, SLAs, and continuous service improvement
  • Develop tools and create guidance to enable knowledge transfer and future proofing
  • Coach and support colleagues on LGPS calculations and processes

What We’re Looking For

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven LGPS pensions administration experience (end-to-end)
  • Strong knowledge of LGPS legislation, regulation, and policy
  • Experience handling complex pension calculations, including:
    • Ill Health Retirement
    • Early Retirement and Redundancy
  • Confident analysing and presenting pension/financial data
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail with a continuous-improvement mindset
  • Experience creating process maps, SOPs, and training materials
  • Ability to support, train, and upskill others on LGPS processes

Nice to Have

  • Experience transitioning services into a shared services or BAU model
  • Background in a local authority or large public sector organisation

Working Arrangements

  • Hourly rate up to £24 for the right candidate
  • Successful candidate must pass a clear Basic DBS check
