Kirklees Council are looking for two Housing Assistants to join the Empty Homes Team. This role is crucial in facilitating the efficient letting of Council homes, ensuring they are re-let promptly to minimize void rental losses. This position offers a hybrid working model, primarily from home, with one day per week in the office.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Carry out administrative tasks related to the termination of tenancies and the receipt of keys, including the verification of relevant documentation.
  • Develop and post high-quality, informative adverts in collaboration with Neighbourhoods Housing Officers to facilitate intelligent lettings.
  • Monitor the progress of repairs on vacant properties to ensure they are ready for advertising and letting in a timely manner.
  • Secure and regularly check vacant properties, ensuring that maintenance and repairs are progressing as planned until the property is let.
  • Allocate properties and garages in line with the Council's Allocation Policy and Choice-Based Lettings system, ensuring sustainable tenancies.
  • Manage offers and refusals efficiently to reduce re-let times and minimize rent loss.
  • Coordinate with Estate Caretakers on maintenance needs for void gardens and organize viewings in collaboration with the Empty Homes Officer.
  • Work closely with partners, such as the Accessible Homes Team, to ensure proper use and quick turnaround of properties suitable for adaptations.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience in housing, property management, or a related field.
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly and adapt to the needs of the service.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of handling sensitive situations with professionalism.
  • Proficiency in managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines.
  • Knowledge of housing policies and regulations is preferred.
  • Flexible working hours with a hybrid work model.
