Trainee Paraplanner – Durham (Hybrid) Salary: £28,000–£34,000
Hybrid Working: 3 days in the Durham office, 2 days from home
Firm Type: Chartered, supportive, growth-focused financial planning firm
Why This Role Is a Brilliant Step Up This is the perfect opportunity for someone who has built a solid foundation in IFA administration or client services and is now ready to move into a technical, career-building paraplanning role.
You’ll join a respected, forward-thinking financial planning firm with a strong presence across the North East. They’re known for developing talent, promoting from within, and giving trainees real exposure to technical work early on — not just admin with a different job title.
If you’re ambitious, curious, and ready to grow, this is the kind of environment where you’ll thrive.
What You’ll Be Doing You’ll work closely with experienced paraplanners and advisers, gradually taking on more technical responsibility as your confidence grows. Your role will include:
- Supporting senior paraplanners with research, data gathering and analysis
- Preparing client review packs, cashflow inputs and meeting notes
- Assisting with suitability report drafting as you develop your technical skills
- Learning how to analyse pensions, investments, protection and tax planning cases
- Liaising with providers to obtain accurate information for casework
- Updating CRM systems and ensuring all documentation is compliant
- Shadowing client meetings to understand the advice process end-to-end
- Taking on more complex tasks as you progress through exams and training
You’ll never be left to figure things out alone — the team is collaborative, patient and genuinely invested in your development.
Training, Support & Progression This firm offers one of the strongest development pathways in the region. You’ll receive:
- Full exam support (RO exams funded, study materials, paid study leave)
- A structured Trainee Paraplanner Senior Paraplanner progression route
- Weekly mentoring sessions with senior paraplanners
- Exposure to complex cases early on (cashflow modelling, DB, tax planning)
- Opportunities to specialise as your career develops
- Clear salary progression linked to exams and capability
If your long-term goal is to become a Chartered Paraplanner, this firm will get you there.
What They’re Looking For You don’t need to be a paraplanner already — but you do need:
- Experience in an IFA/wealth management admin or client support role
- A genuine interest in progressing into paraplanning
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach
- Good understanding of pensions and investments (even at a basic level)
- Confidence using platforms, providers and CRM systems
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn
If you’ve already started your Diploma, that’s a bonus but not essential.
What You’ll Get in Return - Salary £28,000–£34,000 depending on experience
- Hybrid working (3 office / 2 home)
- 25 days holiday + bank holidays
- Exam funding, study leave and structured development
- Modern office environment with a friendly, supportive team
- Regular training workshops and CPD sessions
- Genuine long-term career progression
