Job Title: Mechanical Engineering Technician

Location: Lancashire

Pay: Up to £16,562.56 per annum (£27,604.26 FTE), DOE

Hours: 22.2hrs (Part-Time)

Start Date: August 2026


About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Engineering Technician to join a well-established and high-performing Further Education provider in Lancashire.

This is a fantastic role for someone with strong practical engineering skills who enjoys working in a hands-on workshop environment and supporting learners.


Day to Day of the Role:

  • Maintain a safe and compliant workshop environment for staff and students
  • Support day-to-day workshop activities, including:
  • Issuing tools, equipment, and materials
  • Preparing and cutting materials for practical sessions
  • Carry out routine servicing and maintenance of hand tools and machinery
  • Calibrate gauges and measuring equipment to required standards
  • Conduct regular safety checks in line with health & safety procedures
  • Support the organisation and management of engineering stores


Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Holds GCSEs (or equivalent) including Maths and English
  • Level 3 qualification (or above) in Engineering
  • Demonstrates strong mechanical aptitude and practical skills
  • Experience working in an engineering workshop or similar environment
  • Confident working independently and following schedules
  • Knowledge of health & safety in an engineering setting
  • Experience maintaining or servicing machine tools or hand tools


All candidates who register with Reed Further Education will have 2 years’ referencing taken up and will be required to have a DBS check completed. All offers are conditional upon satisfactory background checks.
