The Role
As Customs Team Leader, you will be responsible for the day-to-day leadership and development of a customs operations team, ensuring all import and export declarations are completed accurately, compliantly, and on time. You will play a key role in supporting operational efficiency while maintaining high standards of customer service and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, motivate, and develop a team of customs professionals
- Oversee daily customs clearance activity, ensuring compliance with UK customs regulations
- Act as an escalation point for complex customs queries and issues
- Monitor team performance against KPIs and service level agreements
- Support training, coaching, and ongoing development within the team
- Liaise with internal stakeholders and external agencies as required
- Ensure processes are followed and continuously improved
About You
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Proven experience leading or supervising a team within a customs or freight environment
- Working knowledge of customs procedures (import/export), at any level
- A strong understanding of compliance and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and people-management skills
- Ability to prioritise workload in a busy operational setting
- A recognised customs qualification (or willingness to work towards further development)
Strong leadership experience is essential – hands-on customs expertise combined with the ability to manage and motivate people is key.
