Financial Accountant - Year End

Reed

I’m currently recruiting a Financial Accountant (Year End) to support the London Fire Brigade during a busy year-end period. This is a hands-on role suited to a competent, technically strong accountant who can hit the ground running and support the successful closure of accounts against tight deadlines.

You’ll be working closely with the Senior Accountant and the wider finance team, supporting the year-end process and helping to work through a backlog. While there is work to do, this is not an organisation in distress - prior years were closed successfully, and the focus is now on driving progress and maintaining quality.

Location: Southwark – Hybrid (2 days in the office / 3 days from home)
Contract length: Initial 3-month contract (with strong potential to extend)

Pay rate: £400 per day via PAYE or £522 per day via Umbrella

The Role

This is a supporting accountant position rather than a lead role. You’ll be focused on core year-end activities, working within an established finance structure and contributing to a critical delivery period.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the year-end accounts close under tight deadlines
  • Preparing and reviewing working papers and account closures
  • Supporting balance sheet reconciliations and year-end adjustments
  • Working with SAP to ensure accurate financial data and reporting
  • Liaising with external auditors (Ernst & Young) as required
  • Supporting audit queries, with reviews overseen by the Senior Accountant

You will not be expected to manage senior stakeholders, but confidence in dealing with auditors and internal finance colleagues is essential.

About You

This role would suit someone who has solid year-end experience and enjoys rolling up their sleeves in a delivery-focused environment.

Essential requirements:

  • Part-qualified accountant (minimum), or equivalent experience
  • Proven experience supporting year-end accounts closure as an Accountant
  • Strong technical accounting skills and attention to detail
  • Experience working with SAP
  • Experience within a public sector environment
  • Ability to work at pace and meet tight reporting deadlines

Desirable:

  • Experience supporting audited accounts
  • Familiarity with complex or large-scale organisations

If you have the required experience and skill set, then apply now for immediate consideration.
