A leading manufacturing business within the metals sector is looking to appoint a technically driven Metallurgist / Materials Engineer to support production, product development and customer quality activities across a specialist stainless steel operation.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in metallurgy, materials science or manufacturing engineering who enjoys working across operations, commercial and customer-facing teams to drive technical excellence and continuous improvement.
The Role as a Technical MetallurgistWorking closely with both commercial and operational teams, you will play a key role in ensuring product quality, supporting customer requirements and driving improvement initiatives across the business.
Key responsibilities will include:
Providing technical support across stainless steel rolling and bar production operations
Acting as a key technical link between customers, suppliers and internal teams
Supporting product quality, yield improvement and defect reduction activities
Investigating customer claims and technical concerns, carrying out root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions
Managing and supporting customer product trials through manufacturing processes
Reviewing customer specifications and integrating requirements into operational systems
Supporting product development and technical improvement projects
Assisting with quality and compliance activities in line with ISO standards
Supporting continuous improvement initiatives through cross-functional collaboration
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
Degree qualification in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Materials Engineering or a related discipline
Previous experience within technical, R&D, manufacturing or operational environments
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Experience supporting process improvement or technical projects
Excellent communication skills with the ability to work across multiple stakeholder groups
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages including Excel and PowerPoint
Experience within stainless steel, long products, rod coil, rebar or bar manufacturing would be highly advantageous, although not essential.
