Subject Access Request (SAR) Officer – NHS

Band 5 | £25 per hour (Umbrella)

Central London | Hybrid working

Initial 12-week contract | ASAP start

An NHS organisation based in Central London is seeking an experienced Subject Access Request (SAR) / Information Governance Officer to support the clearance of a backlog of SARs. This is a hybrid role with an immediate start (within 1–2 weeks) and strong potential to add real value in a fast-paced, regulated environment.

Key responsibilities include:

• Managing and progressing Subject Access Requests in line with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018
• Reviewing, validating and triaging SARs, clarifying scope where required
• Locating, collating and preparing personal data from multiple systems, including electronic patient records, emails and archived files
• Working closely with clinical teams, medical records, HR and other departments to gather information efficiently
• Applying appropriate redactions and exemptions in line with NHS and IG guidance
• Ensuring disclosures are accurate, secure and issued within statutory timeframes
• Maintaining clear audit trails and updating SAR tracking systems
• Communicating sensitively and professionally with requestors
• Supporting process improvements to reduce backlog risk and improve turnaround times

This role would suit someone highly organised, detail-focused and confident handling sensitive information under pressure, with previous NHS or public-sector IG/SAR experience desirable.
