Lead Teacher

GLL

The Lead Teacher is responsible to the General Manager for day-to-day centre operations and the Area Swim School Lead for technical swimming advice. 

As a charitable social enterprise, we are different.  Our purpose is to improve the physical, mental and social well-being of local communities. We do this by  

  • Providing balanced leisure centre, library and children centre programmes and activities that meet local needs and are accessible to all. 

  • Reinvesting surplus back into the business that benefit facilities, people development, the environment and sustainability. 

  • Providing training, routes to employment and career development opportunities to local people. 

  • Sponsoring thousands of promising athletes through our GLL Sports Foundation. 

  • Delivering targeted initiatives in partnership with local communities, groups and health providers.

Each of these themes sets out long term ambitions; which are regularly reviewed and updated and are reflected in the responsibilities and accountabilities of this role (Section 3 below).  

Responsibilities and Accountabilities 

These are set out against the six values.   

 
 

Partners of Choice  

  • Work with external stakeholders such as STA tutors to ensure the successful delivery of lessons and training courses 

  • Attendance at Teacher Meetings and Training as required 

  • To assist as necessary the operational duty team in furthering the successful operation of events and activities 

  • Mentor, develop and guide your team and any newly qualified teachers 

  • Effectively plan and lead the delivery of team huddles 

 Respecting the Planet 

  • Implement all Health and Safety requirements, including all procedures in relation to fire prevention, licences, food, COSHH, heating, ventilation, L8, energy management and conservation 

  • To carry out routine monitoring and non-specialist / basic maintenance of equipment and fittings as required, bringing to the attention of the Supervisor / Manager any faults or major repairs in line with company procedures 

  • To work to upkeep of the grounds and facility as and when required 

The Better Way of Doing Business  

  • To comply with the commitments outlined in the “Customer Charter”, ensuring that standards are maintained as stipulated 

  • To ensure that the class taught is as advertised is part of the GLL Fitness Class product 

  • To ensure all participants have registered and are booked onto the class 

  • Responsible for the efficient and effective control of the day-to-day operations and service of events/activities, ensuring that security, general cleanliness, customer supervision and equipment checks are maintained 

  • Report device, equipment and pool issues to duty manager 

More Than a Job  

  • Mentor, develop and guide your team and any newly qualified teachers 

  • Ability to give developmental and positive feedback to teaching teams 

  • Evaluate your lessons and provide every pupil with feedback 

  • Follow all code of conducts and safeguarding procedures 

  • Ensure Schemes of Work and lessons plans are being followed 

  • To ensure excellent standards of cleanliness at all times 

 Customers and Communities at Our Heart 

  • To maintain a good and positive image of the centres to all participants proving a welcoming, helpful and professional service 

  • To go above and beyond to ensure that the participants have an exceptional experience on every visit 

  • To promote the facility in a positive manner to retain existing customers, encourage greater participation, and introduce new users to the facilities 

  • To assist customers with use of the facilities 

  • Maintain a good and positive image of the centre to customers and the public by providing a welcoming, helpful and professional operational service 

 
 
 

 Tackling Health Inequalities 

  • Adapt sessions as per the needs of the pupils to ensure every child progresses 

  • To ensure attendance is captured and accurately monitor pupil progression and update pupil progress 

  • To ensure that all equipment is used in a manner consistent with safe working practice 

  • To ensure that equipment is fit for purpose prior to customers being allowed to make use of 

  • To ensure the safety and control of customers within the class environment and to enforce all centres guidelines 

  • To ensure the safety and control of customers and the public generally, and ensure that all relevant regulations applicable to the stadium’s operation are enforced and complied with 

  • To ensure the class environment is safe before, during and after the class 

 
 

 Other     

  • Act in accordance with and actively promotes all GLL policies and standards. 

  • Undertake any other duties commensurate with the post’s level of responsibility or required particularly as a result of events outside of GLL’s business control (pandemics etc). 

  • Work flexibly in line with the needs of the business at peak flow times, evenings and weekends.  

  • Deliver critical incident management as and when required.
