My client is one of the UK's most respected forestry and woodland advisory businesses, known for delivering high-quality professional services to private estates, institutional investors, rural landowners and commercial forestry clients nationwide.
With forestry investment, woodland creation and natural capital markets continuing to expand across the North of England, my client is now looking to appoint a Head of Forestry / Forestry Director to lead and grow their regional forestry offering. The position can be based from key office hubs in Newcastle, Northallerton or Harrogate, with flexibility for candidates located within commuting distance of any of these areas.
This is a senior leadership opportunity for an experienced forestry professional with strong commercial judgement, technical credibility and the ability to build long-term client relationships.
The RoleThis is a high-profile Director-level appointment responsible for leading forestry and woodland services across the North of England. The successful candidate will take ownership of key client portfolios, oversee the delivery of forest and woodland management work, and play a central role in developing new business and growing recurring management income.
The role offers a blend of strategic advisory work, team leadership, and hands-on involvement in commercial forestry projects, with access to a broad client base and significant long-term progression.
Key ResponsibilitiesLeading forestry asset management and woodland advisory services across the North of England
Acting as principal advisor for key estate, landowner and investment clients
Advising on commercial forestry management, restocking, thinning programmes and harvesting strategies
Overseeing woodland creation and afforestation schemes from feasibility through to delivery
Supporting clients with grant funding, compliance and long-term forestry planning
Managing and overseeing contractors across planting, maintenance and harvesting operations
Advising on timber marketing strategies and supporting timber sales processes
Supporting forestry valuations and assisting with investment appraisals, cashflows and portfolio reporting
Preparing budgets, management reports and performance reviews for client portfolios
Identifying woodland acquisition opportunities and advising clients on purchases, disposals and strategic investment decisions
Building and expanding a strong network of landowners, agents, professional introducers and rural stakeholders
Growing recurring fee income through excellent client service and proactive business development
Supporting the development and mentoring of junior forestry colleagues within the team
Formal forestry qualification (degree level preferred)
Ideally a member of, or working towards membership of, the Institute of Chartered Foresters (ICF)
Minimum 5+ years' experience in forestry / land management (Director level candidates likely 8-15+ years)
Strong IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint; GIS / forest management systems advantageous)
Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the region
