• £24.96 - £27.85 per hour (PAYE)
• £33.64 - £37.53 per hour (Umbrella)

The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Environmental Health Officer to join a dynamic Environmental Health team within the London Borough of Hackney.

You will play a key role in delivering environmental health and regulatory services, supporting the Council's corporate objectives and community safety priorities. This varied role involves enforcement, inspections, investigations, and partnership working across a wide range of environmental health functions.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out inspections of commercial premises and investigate complaints
• Enforce environmental health, public health, and health & safety legislation
• Prepare reports, case files, and legal documentation for enforcement and prosecutions
• Lead or support targeted operations and projects (e.g. food safety, infectious disease control, workplace incidents)
• Provide advice and guidance to businesses and the public
• Work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders
• Contribute to improving standards across businesses within the borough
• Participate in out-of-hours work, including evenings and weekends where required

About You

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• A recognised Environmental Health qualification (e.g. BSc/MSc Environmental Health)
• Registration as an Environmental Health Practitioner (EHORB / CIEH recognised)
• Strong knowledge of environmental health and associated legislation
• Experience in inspections, enforcement, and complex investigations
• Excellent communication and report-writing skills
• Ability to manage a varied workload and work both independently and within a team
