Hair and Beauty Therapy Lecturer / Tutor (City & Guilds)

Sixth Form & KS4 | Maternity Cover (Sept 2026 – April 2027) | Potential Permanent Opportunity

Are you a passionate Beauty Therapy professional with a flair for teaching and inspiring the next generation? We are seeking a City & Guilds Beauty Therapy Lecturer/Tutor to join our vibrant and supportive team at a secondary school in Southend on Sea.

This role will initially be maternity cover from September 2026 to April 2027, with a strong possibility of becoming a permanent position.

About the Role

You will deliver high-quality practical and theoretical Beauty Therapy training to sixth form students and potentially Key Stage 4 learners, preparing them for successful careers in the beauty industry.

You will teach City & Guilds qualifications at Levels 1–3 (and potentially Level 4), ensuring students develop both professional skills and industry knowledge.

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum Delivery

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons in:
    • Anatomy & Physiology
    • Facials & Skin Analysis
    • Manicure & Pedicure
    • Hair Removal Techniques
    • Makeup Application
  • Adapt teaching to meet a range of abilities and learning styles

Assessment & Quality Assurance

  • Assess practical and theory work in line with City & Guilds standards
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback to support learner progress
  • Participate in internal verification and quality processes

Learner Support

  • Act as a personal tutor, setting targets and monitoring progress
  • Conduct one-to-one tutorials and support progression into employment or further study
  • Foster confidence, professionalism, and industry readiness

Classroom & Salon Management

  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and professional learning environment
  • Ensure equipment, resources, and salon areas meet industry standards
  • Deliver engaging, up-to-date teaching materials

Administration

  • Maintain accurate student records, including:
    • Registers
    • Assessment tracking
    • Progress reports
  • Liaise with curriculum managers and quality teams

Industry Engagement

  • Keep current with developments such as:
    • Advanced epilation
    • Laser/light therapies
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety legislation and salon standards

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications

  • Level 3 (minimum) qualification in Beauty Therapy
  • Teaching qualification (e.g. PTLLS, CTLLS, DTLLS or PGCE) or willingness to work towards
  • Assessor qualification (A1/TAQA) – desirable

Experience

  • At least 3 years’ industry experience in Beauty Therapy
  • Experience of teaching, training, or assessing (preferably in an FE or school setting)
