Assistant Management Accountant

Hours: 35 hours per week (Monday–Friday)

Location: Oxford – Hybrid

Reporting to: Finance Manager

The Role

This is a varied and rewarding opportunity for an Assistant Management Accountant to join a Distribution Finance team within a large, fast-paced operational environment.

The role provides key support to senior finance stakeholders through the preparation of management information, budgeting and reforecasting support, variance analysis, balance sheet reconciliations, and month-end activities. You will play an important part in delivering accurate, timely financial information to support operational and strategic decision-making.

The role offers excellent exposure to financial systems and data, working extensively with Excel, SAP, Power Automate, and business intelligence tools, while maintaining strong financial controls and compliance.

This position is well suited to a proactive and detail-focused individual looking to continue developing their finance career in a collaborative team environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts, including year-end roll-forward activities
  • Support budgeting and reforecasting processes, including detailed variance analysis
  • Produce accurate and timely financial reports for senior stakeholders
  • Perform balance sheet and profit & loss account reconciliations
  • Support cost analysis initiatives identifying efficiencies and cost-saving opportunities
  • Assist with internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and policies
  • Support the maintenance of financial systems and contribute to continuous process improvement
  • Develop understanding across other areas of the finance function to provide wider team support and resilience
  • Provide ad-hoc support to the Finance team as required
  • Respond to stakeholder and client queries promptly and professionally in line with agreed service levels
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of financial data and commercially sensitive information
  • Work in line with organisational values, including ownership mindset, collaboration, continuous improvement, and inclusion
  • Ensure compliance with Quality, Health & Safety, Environmental standards, and company policies
  • Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of others
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties in line with the role

Skills & Experience

  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
  • Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
  • Ability to manage deadlines and prioritise workload effectively
  • Confident communicator, able to work with stakeholders at all levels
  • Proactive, resilient, and solutions-focused approach
  • Experience working with SAP or similar ERP systems
  • Exposure to BI tools, Power Automate, or reporting automation
  • Studying towards a professional accounting qualification (AAT, ACCA, ACA or CIMA)
