About the School

This brand-new specialist school is due to open in late 2026 and will provide a nurturing, inclusive and ambitious environment for children and young people aged 5-19 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

With a planned capacity of 72 pupils, the school’s vision is to create a safe, enriching and aspirational learning environment where every learner is supported to achieve their full potential. Strong relationships, high expectations and inclusive practice sit at the heart of the school’s ethos.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a new provision at a pivotal stage of development and to help shape outstanding SEND practice from the outset.

The Role

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate SENDCo to lead and champion provision for pupils with complex and additional needs.

As SENDCo, you will play a key role in shaping and delivering high-quality, inclusive education across the school. Working closely with teaching staff, families and external professionals, you will ensure that all pupils receive the support they need to thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

This is a highly impactful role within a specialist SEMH setting and offers the opportunity to influence strategic development, staff practice and pupil outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

• Promoting an inclusive and child-centred approach to SEND across the school
• Leading the Annual Review process and liaising with EHCP coordinators
• Working collaboratively with external professionals and agencies
• Supporting and advising teaching staff with specialist strategies and interventions
• Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of SEND teaching and learning
• Leading on assessment, data tracking and reporting for pupils with SEND
• Planning and delivering CPD and INSET focused on SEND best practice
• Contributing to strategic planning and whole-school improvement initiatives

Skills & Qualifications

Successful candidates are likely to demonstrate:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a PGCE or equivalent
• A SENCo qualification (or willingness to complete this within three years of appointment)
• Experience working with pupils with SEND, ideally within a specialist setting
• Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and safeguarding requirements
• Excellent communication, leadership and organisational skills
• A collaborative, creative and child-centred approach to education
