A senior procurement opportunity for an experienced Buyer to lead Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) purchasing across a growing engineering-led business. Reporting into the Purchasing Director, this role combines strategic influence with hands-on supplier and cost management responsibility.

Description

  • Lead procurement activity across key categories, with a strong focus on Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) and engineering spend
  • Act as a senior escalation point and commercial lead for UK and international suppliers
  • Negotiate pricing, contracts, and commercial terms to deliver sustainable cost savings
  • Benchmark supplier pricing and identify opportunities for continuous cost reduction
  • Source, evaluate, and onboard alternative suppliers to reduce risk and improve competitiveness
  • Manage supplier performance across delivery, quality, and pricing accuracy
  • Support and influence procurement strategy alongside the Purchasing Director
  • Drive continuous improvement across procurement processes, systems, and the supplier base
  • Contribute to stock management, forecasting, and broader supply chain optimisation
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure operational and commercial requirements are met

Profile

A successful Senior Buyer should have:

  • Proven experience in a senior buying or procurement role within engineering, manufacturing, construction, or distribution
  • Strong background working with international suppliers and import processes
  • Demonstrable success in negotiation, cost reduction, and supplier performance management
  • Commercially astute and confident challenging decisions to drive better outcomes
  • Comfortable operating with autonomy and accountability in a senior role
  • Highly organised with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience using ERP systems; Microsoft Dynamics Business Central is desirable but not essential
