The role (summary)

You'll take ownership of mechanical design for special purpose machinery-developing concepts, producing production-ready designs in SolidWorks, and supporting the build/assembly phase to ensure designs are practical, safe and fit for purpose.


Key responsibilities

  • Design mechanical assemblies and special purpose machinery from concept to completion
  • Produce accurate 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings (SolidWorks)
  • Create/maintain BOMs, drawing packs and technical documentation
  • Participate in design reviews and implement continuous improvement changes
  • Liaise with workshop/production teams to ensure buildability and correct function
  • Work with suppliers on component selection and technical queries
  • Support troubleshooting and design modifications during assembly/commissioning
  • Ensure designs align with expected safety and quality standards


Experience & skills

Essential:

  • Proven experience designing special purpose machinery (or bespoke automated/mechanical equipment)
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks, able to produce complex assemblies and detail drawings
  • Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals and manufacturing knowledge
  • Ability to produce clear, accurate drawings and documentation


Desirable / preferred:

  • GD&T, tolerancing, materials selection, and standard component knowledge
