Oxford City Council are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Senior Urban Design Officer to join our Urban Design & Heritage Team and deal with a wide range of design issues.

About the role:

To provide specialist urban design advice to planners on major planning applications and pre-application enquiries. To provide urban design support and advice on a range of design guidance and planning policy projects and to support with facilitating the Oxford Design Review Panel.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A degree in a subject in or related to urban design such as architecture is essential.
  • Membership (or working towards) of the Urban Design Group, the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI), Institute or the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).
  • Demonstrate experience in urban design, including dealing with the urban design aspects of major development proposals and projects and presenting this knowledge to a range of audiences.
  • Ability to influence whilst building effective, collaborative, positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders to deliver high quality customer service.
  • Demonstrable experience in exercising judgement, making balanced assessments through problem solving and putting forward rational, evidence-based well-argued recommendations.
  • Strong IT skills.
  • Experience of working with elected Members and other representatives, including presenting to Committee.
  • Working and current knowledge of the UK planning system and the implications of the 2004 Planning Act, including current planning law and Government guidance.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrating the ability to exercise judgement, make balanced assessments and decision making in relation to putting forward rational, evidence-based recommendations.

  • Location: Oxford Town Hall, OX1 1BX (hybrid opportunities)
  • Hours per week 37 hours - over 5 days or condense to 4
  • £21.47 umbrella or £19.16 PAYE
