Job Overview

Plymouth City Council is seeking a Street Scene & Waste Operative to support city centre car park cleansing and street scene duties.

This role involves working as part of the second team on a Friday to Sunday rota, carrying out cleansing, waste removal, litter picking, fly-tip removal, small graffiti removal, washdowns and general maintenance duties across city centre car parks.

The successful candidate must hold a clean driving licence, be able to report to Prince Rock Depot at 06:00, and be willing to complete a driver assessment on an electric van.

Full training, PPE, equipment and materials will be provided.

This role requires a clean driving licence and the ability to work Friday to Sunday, starting from 06:00 at Prince Rock Depot.

You must be comfortable carrying out practical cleansing duties, including removing litter, glass, fly tipping and bodily fluids such as vomit, blood, urine and excrement.

Candidates who cannot meet the weekend working pattern, early start time or driving requirement are unlikely to be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sweep and litter pick across city centre car parks
  • Remove waste from all surfaces, including litter and glass
  • Clean areas affected by bodily fluids such as vomit, blood, urine and excrement
  • Remove fly tipping
  • Remove small graffiti tagging
  • Wash down stairwells
  • Paint car park walls as part of proactive maintenance
  • Clean customer signage
  • Log and report defects and hazards within car parks
  • Help maintain clean, safe and presentable parking facilities
  • Drive an allocated electric van following successful driver assessment
  • Carry out other reasonable tasks suitable to the role

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Clean driving licence
  • Willing and able to complete a driver assessment on an electric van
  • Comfortable working Friday to Sunday
  • Able to report to Prince Rock Depot at 06:00
  • Comfortable carrying out manual cleansing duties
  • Willing to clean bodily fluids and other waste in public areas
  • Reliable, punctual and able to work independently
  • Good awareness of health and safety
  • Able to log and report hazards or defects accurately
