Location: Southend-on-Sea

Start Date: September 2026

Contract: Permanent or 1-Year Fixed Term (with potential to become permanent)

Salary: MPS/UPS + potential TLR for Head of Department (dependent on experience)

The Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and ambitious Psychology Teacher to join a forward-thinking secondary school in Southend from September. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate educator who is not only committed to high-quality teaching, but is also keen to progress into a Head of Department role.

You will be responsible for delivering engaging and high-quality lessons in Psychology up to A-Level, with the opportunity to contribute to BTEC and other vocational pathways.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver outstanding Psychology lessons across Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5
• Teach A-Level Psychology, with potential involvement in BTEC/vocational courses
• Plan, prepare, and assess students’ work to drive strong academic outcomes
• Contribute to curriculum development and enrichment opportunities
• Support the growth and leadership of the department, with a view to stepping into a Head of Department position
• Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment

The Ideal Candidate

• Holds QTS or QTLS (essential)
• Has experience teaching Psychology up to A-Level
• Has knowledge or willingness to teach BTEC or vocational qualifications
• Demonstrates strong classroom management and student engagement skills
• Is ambitious, proactive, and interested in middle leadership / Head of Department responsibilities
• Has a genuine passion for Psychology and student success
