Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant (Trauma-Informed) – Secondary Provision

We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled SEN Teaching Assistant to support a secondary-aged student within a specialist provision. This is a rewarding opportunity for a trauma-informed professional who is passionate about supporting young people with complex needs and helping them progress toward a successful transition into a mainstream environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 support to a student with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs and challenging behaviours
  • Implement and independently manage individual behaviour support plans
  • Use trauma-informed approaches to support emotional regulation and engagement
  • Build a strong, trusting relationship with the student to promote positive outcomes
  • Support the student’s gradual reintegration into a mainstream educational setting
  • Work collaboratively with school staff and external professionals to ensure consistent support

Requirements

  • Proven experience working with high-needs pupils in a school or specialist setting
  • Strong background in supporting SEMH and challenging behaviour
  • CPI, Team Teach, or Positive Handling training (essential)
  • Ability to remain calm, resilient, and adaptable in challenging situations
  • Experience of working in a trauma-informed way
  • Confident in taking initiative and working independently
