Deputy Town Clerk (Designate)

• Annual Salary: SCP28 £39,152 (subject to NJC pay awards, expected around 3%)

Join the Leiston-cum-Sizewell Town Council in a pivotal role as Deputy Town Clerk (Designate). This position offers a structured development pathway, preparing you to succeed the current Town Clerk upon their retirement in May 2027. You will play a crucial role in strategic leadership, administration, legal compliance, and day-to-day operations.

Day-to-day of the role:

• Support the Town Clerk in strategic planning and implementation of Council decisions, policies, and projects.
• Assist in the preparation of agendas, reports, and minutes for Council and Committee meetings.
• Ensure the Council operates within statutory requirements and follows proper procedures.
• Deputise for the Town Clerk, assisting in governance, compliance, and strategic and operational delivery.
• Manage day-to-day administration of council services, facilities, and assets.
• Act as a point of contact for residents, businesses, and partners, supporting community projects and events.
• Assist in annual budget preparation and management, and support funding applications and bid writing.
• Provide leadership and continuity in the absence of the Town Clerk, engaging in a mentoring programme as Town Clerk (Designate).

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Good standard of education with knowledge of local government and understanding of governance and meeting procedures.
• Experience in local government and project management, including preparing agendas, minutes, and formal documentation.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, organisational and time management skills.
• Good IT skills (Microsoft Office, Email systems), and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Professional, reliable, and discreet, with a strong attention to detail and flexibility to attend evening meetings.
