Nigel Wright Group

Our client

Our client is a high-volume manufacturer based in Northumberland, operating a large, complex, asset-intensive production facility. The site forms a critical part of a wider manufacturing group and runs 24/7 continuous processes where plant reliability, safety and technical excellence are essential.

The culture is practical and engineering-led, with a strong emphasis on hands-on problem solving, accountability and teamwork. Ongoing capital investment, including the installation of new production equipment, underlines a clear commitment to long-term manufacturing capability and continuous improvement.

The opportunity

Due to a replacement hire and upcoming investment projects, our client is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join their shift-based maintenance team.

Working a continental 12-hour shift pattern (days and nights), you will play a key role in maintaining, fault-finding and improving complex manufacturing equipment to ensure high levels of uptime, safety and performance.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Electrical fault finding and repair on production and ancillary plant
  • Preventive and reactive maintenance of large-scale manufacturing machinery
  • PLC-based diagnostics, predominantly Siemens PLC systems
  • Support for the installation and commissioning of new equipment
  • Working in compliance with health & safety standards
  • Accurate completion of maintenance records using a CMMS
  • Providing technical support to production and mentoring less experienced engineers when required

This is a hands-on role offering a high level of autonomy on shift, with strong support from an experienced engineering team.

About you

You will be a technically strong, resilient Electrical Engineer with experience in large-scale, high-volume manufacturing environments.

You will bring:

  • Proven electrical maintenance and fault-finding experience within complex industrial manufacturing
  • Hands-on experience with Siemens PLC-controlled machinery
  • Experience working with AC/DC drives (ideally Siemens and ABB) and tension control systems
  • Ability to work confidently and safely on a continental shift pattern
  • Sound knowledge of electrical schematics and industrial diagnostics
  • A strong safety mindset, with practical knowledge of LOTO and safe systems of work (ATEX desirable)
  • A completed Electrical Engineering Apprenticeship and HNC in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)

You’ll be calm under pressure, detail-focused and comfortable taking ownership of technical issues, while working collaboratively with colleagues across engineering and production.
