eFinancialCareers

An exciting opportunity has arisen with a leading global (re)insurer for a Senior Catastrophe Research Analyst to join their Risk Analytics function.

This is a highly visible role, sitting close to underwriting, where you will take ownership of catastrophe research strategy and delivery. You will lead key initiatives including vendor model validation, development of a proprietary View of Risk, and deep-dive research into catastrophe trends across regions and perils.

Working in a collaborative and technically strong environment, you will engage with underwriting, capital partners, exposure management and external stakeholders, acting as a subject matter expert and thought leader in natural catastrophe risk.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and co-ordinate catastrophe research projects across the business
  • Develop and implement Views of Risk across multiple perils/regions
  • Validate and challenge vendor catastrophe models
  • Deliver research into catastrophe frequency and severity
  • Present insights internally and externally to senior stakeholders, brokers, and investors
  • Provide real-time insight on active catastrophe events
  • Represent the business at industry forums and build relationships with academia

Requirements

  • Strong academic background (PhD or MSc in a relevant scientific discipline)
  • Deep understanding of catastrophe modelling and exposure management
  • Experience within reinsurance and/or ILS markets
  • Strong knowledge of vendor models and their limitations
  • Excellent programming skills (Python, R, SQL)
  • Commercial mindset with the ability to translate research into business decisions
  • Confident communicator with experience engaging senior stakeholders

This is a rare opportunity to step into a high-impact role combining research, strategy, and stakeholder engagement within a forward-thinking and well-respected platform.
