SEND Inclusion Officer

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced SEND Inclusion Officer to join a local authority team supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

This role plays a key part in delivering statutory duties relating to Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), with a strong focus on coordinating and managing Annual Reviews. The successful candidate will manage a high-volume caseload (circa 250 cases), working closely with schools, families, and multi-agency partners to ensure plans remain compliant, appropriate, and up to date.

This position requires someone who can work at pace, manage complex casework independently, and consistently meet statutory deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and progress a high caseload of EHCPs, with a primary focus on Annual Reviews
  • Coordinate the Annual Review process, liaising with schools, families, and professionals
  • Draft, amend, and update EHCP documentation in line with statutory requirements
  • Ensure compliance with SEND legislation, guidance, and local authority procedures
  • Respond to queries from parents, schools, and professionals in a timely and sensitive manner
  • Work collaboratively with education, health, and social care partners
  • Maintain accurate records using case management systems and collaboration tools
  • Support system transition activities, adapting to new processes and platforms
  • Contribute to service improvements and ensure statutory timescales are met

Candidate Requirements:

  • Proven experience in a SEND Inclusion Officer role or similar within a local authority setting
  • Strong experience managing EHCP Annual Reviews
  • Ability to handle a high-volume caseload (circa 250 cases) while meeting deadlines
  • Good working knowledge of SEND legislation and statutory processes
  • Experience using Capita One (essential); familiarity with Liquidlogic desirable
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Teams, with working knowledge of SharePoint
  • Strong written skills, particularly in drafting and updating EHCPs
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Highly organised, resilient, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment
