Risk & Governance Manager

Day rate: £550–£650 per day
Location: Hybrid working
Start date: Immediate

The organisation

We’re working with a large, complex and highly regulated organisation that plays a critical role at a national level. The business is going through a period of change and needs experienced professionals who can bring structure, clarity and assurance to senior decision-makers.

This is an environment where good governance and effective risk management genuinely matter, not just on paper. There’s strong senior engagement, clear visibility of your work, and real scope to make an impact quickly.

Why consider this role

  • Day rate: £550–£650 (outside IR35, dependent on experience)
  • Hybrid working – a mix of home and office
  • Immediate start
  • Opportunity to add real value quickly
  • High-profile work with senior leaders and committees
  • Role with influence across the wider organisation

The role

As Risk & Governance Manager, you’ll take the lead on how risk and governance operate across the organisation. You’ll ensure risks are clearly identified, well managed and properly reported, and that governance processes support effective decision-making rather than slowing it down.

You’ll work closely with senior leaders, challenge where needed, and help embed a mature, risk-based approach across the business.

Key responsibilities

Risk management

  • Lead and oversee the organisation’s risk management framework
  • Ensure risks are identified, assessed, escalated and reported appropriately
  • Act as the main point of contact for senior leaders on risk matters
  • Support strategic and corporate planning with high-quality risk insight
  • Produce clear, concise reporting for executive and audit committees

Governance

  • Drive the development and continuous improvement of governance processes
  • Identify where governance is not working effectively and fix it
  • Support senior boards and committees to ensure strong oversight
  • Promote a positive culture of accountability, transparency and good decision-making

Assurance and compliance

  • Maintain oversight of assurance activity and compliance requirements
  • Support regular reviews and updates to assurance heatmaps
  • Liaise with internal and external audit bodies where required

Leadership and stakeholder engagement

  • Line manage and support a Risk Officer
  • Coach and develop risk focal points across the organisation
  • Influence and challenge senior stakeholders with confidence and diplomacy

What we’re looking for

  • Proven experience leading risk and governance in a complex organisation
  • Strong understanding of enterprise risk management frameworks
  • Confidence working with executive-level stakeholders and committees
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to balance pace with accuracy in a fast-moving environment

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced risk professional who can step in quickly, build credibility fast, and leave a lasting improvement behind.
